What is Castos? A plain-language definition
Castos is a podcast hosting company. A podcast host stores the audio files and publishes a feed, which is a web address that podcast apps read to find new episodes. Castos does that for public shows, which it sends to Apple Podcasts, Spotify and other directories. It also runs private shows, which stay out of those directories.
The name is easy to confuse. Google's autocomplete on October 18, 2026 showed unrelated local businesses, such as a funeral home and a pizza shop, for the bare word. The company covered here is the podcast host at castos.com. It is audio delivery, not an intranet, a learning-management system or a place to store documents.
The parts: hosting, private feeds, the listener app and integrations
- Hosting: unlimited podcasts, episodes and downloads on every plan, with free migration from another host.
- Private feeds: each invited person gets a personal feed. A show can be fully private, or hybrid, with some public episodes and some for subscribers only.
- Listener app: a free iOS and Android app for private listeners, available on Growth and higher. People sign in with their email and a one-time code.
- Access tools: add people by email, by a bulk import that Castos arranges, or through Zapier, Stripe, Kit and WordPress membership plugins.
- Analytics: listens by episode, location and app, with private shows reported the same way as public ones.
- Enterprise services: single sign-on, custom contracts and a named account manager on the contact-us plan, and a separate enterprise page that describes a white-label app and links to HR and learning systems.
How a private Castos show works from upload to listener
You upload an episode as with any show and set the show to private. You then add listeners by name and email. Castos emails each person a personal feed address and subscribe buttons for the apps that accept private feeds, or invites them to its own app. The person adds the feed once. New episodes then arrive like any other show in that app.
When someone leaves, you remove them from the subscriber list. Castos says that revokes their feed, and on Growth and up the app follows the same list. A file already downloaded stays on the phone, which Castos's own guide admits.
Questions to put to Castos before you choose it
The pages we read leave several points open. Put them to Castos, in writing, before you pay.
- Are private subscribers counted per account or per show? The pricing page gives the caps but not the counting rule.
- Is the contact-us Premium plan the same offer as the Castos Enterprise page describes, and what does it include?
- What are the terms of the add-on that raises the private list above 500?
- What happens to episodes a former employee already downloaded? Castos's own guide says they cannot be deleted.
- Which sender address do invitations come from, so your IT team can allow it?
Who it fits, and where its boundary sits
Castos fits teams that want private audio in ordinary podcast apps: leadership updates, onboarding, training, sales enablement, and client-only feeds for coaches. The buying decisions are covered in the Castos review and the pricing guide.
The boundary is the plan. The entry plan holds up to 100 private listeners with no app, single sign-on needs the contact-us plan, and Castos says Spotify does not support private feeds. If staff live inside Spotify, check other hosts first, and read how to create an internal podcast before you buy.
