Libsyn's pricing page lists no private plan or price, and its Professional and Enterprise plans are sold by contact. A Libsyn guide that cites 2023 data lists private podcasts among its enterprise podcasting features, and Libsyn's enterprise page describes role-based access for team members rather than private listener feeds.
For subscriber-only episodes, Libsyn's help center documents Apple Podcasts Subscriptions, a route through Apple rather than a private feed. Libsyn's own page on Transistor alternatives names private podcasting for an internal corporate team or a small membership as a case for Transistor.
How each host prices: upload hours or private subscribers
Libsyn prices by how much new audio you upload, not by downloads: Basic is $12 a month for 3 hours a month, Advanced is $25 for 10 hours and Max is $150 for 55 hours, each billed monthly. Its page also lists a plan for the bare essentials, without its upload hours.
Castos prices by private subscribers, with unlimited episodes and downloads on every plan: Essentials is $19 a month, Growth is $49 and Pro is $99, billed monthly, for up to 100, 250 and 500. Castos Premium starts at $499 a month; contact Castos. Libsyn posts no price for private podcasting, so a private cost per listener at Libsyn cannot be set beside Castos's.
Users, trials and billing
Libsyn allows up to five users on each podcast. Castos allows just you on Essentials, up to 5 team members on Growth and up to 10 on Pro. Castos's trial is 14 days against Libsyn's 30, and both ask for a card before the trial begins. Castos says it does not charge the card until the 14 days are up, and Libsyn says it does not charge until its 30-day trial ends.
Who should pick Libsyn
Pick Libsyn for a public show priced by upload hours, with a 30-day trial and Basic at $12 a month, billed monthly. Pick Castos for a staff-only or client-only show, where the plan limit is people and each person gets a feed Castos can revoke. Castos alternatives lists other hosts for that job.
No Libsyn page read documents what a private Libsyn podcast needs or costs, so ask Libsyn before planning a private show there. The Castos review and Castos pricing cover the Castos side.
